The History of Rickshaw

Rickshaw was founded firstly at Japan in 1869 by a staff of American Embassy in Japan named Mr. Goble. An idea came from the desire of Mr. Goble who wanted to help his wife with her disabilities to enjoy the views of the Japanese City. These idea presented to his friend namely Mr. Frank Pollay to makes its design. The design executed by a blacksmith named Mr. Obaidah Wheeler and be a vehicle that known of “Jinrikisha” by Japanese which means the human power vehicle.

Expansion of Rickshaw in Indonesia

Rickshaw was firstly founded in Indonesia around 1930 precisely in Makassar which then spread to some cities at Indonesia in the 1940s. Expansion of the rickshaw in several cities in Indonesia has ups and downs. Many argue that rickshaw was the main cause of traffic jam especially in big cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar. It’s make the local government in each of these city issued a role to reduce the existence of rickshaw and replace it with motorize transport modes.
